What would Deborah Say? pg. 18, march 11, 2013 Scope Magazine

What Would Deborah Say?

Read the debate on pg. 19 of the March 11, 2013 SCOPE magazine. Now imagine you are Deborah Sampson in 1783. The Colonial newspaper has asked you to write a one-page essay arguing that woman soldiers should be allowed in combat. Refer to the debate for ideas on how you might craft your argument.

In your essay, use details from the play to support your points of view. You have 30 minutes to write your essay. Think about what you will write before you write it.

Are You Tired? Writing Practice

In three to five paragraphs, explain whether you are sleep deprived and describe three ways to either maintain your good sleep habits or improve your sleep habits. Read the article in the March 11, 2013 edition of SCOPE Magazine. You have 30 minutes to complete your essay.

ELD Work

We will be working on phrases and practicing speaking a bit more so our warm-ups will be taking a bit longer as we focus on proper greetings, introductions, and asking for assistance in class. Every group will be practicing and learning how to ask for clarifications when you don't understand words, concepts, ideas. Asking questions is a good way to make sure that you know what you are supposed to be writing, talking, reviewing, and learning about.

We will also be focusing on writing to show what we know and learning a few more reading/note taking strategies like the small flip books we learned about before break.

Changes are coming! TO make sure that everyone is getting what they need from class, we will be changing things up a bit when you come back from break. If you have any big projects, please be sure to check in with the teacher for progress checks.
