You Write it! Changing the World, One Toy at a time, March 11, 2013 SCOPE

Use the notes on pg. 24 of the March 11, 2013 SCOPE Magazine to write an article based on an interview using the headline provided.

1. Read the interview with McKenna Pope.
2. Think about the headline written by the magazine editors. That will tell you what the central idea of your article should be about. (usually you have to decide this on your own).
3. Write an article about McKenna in your own words. Use quotes from the interview and make sure you stay focused on the central idea. Your article should be between 230 - 300 words. You have 30 minutes to write your article.

Read the debate on pg. 19 of the March 11, 2013 SCOPE magazine. Now imagine you are Deborah Sampson in 1783. The Colonial newspaper has asked you to write a one-page essay arguing that woman soldiers should be allowed in combat. Refer to the debate for ideas on how you might craft your argument.

In your essay, use details from the play to support your points of view. You have 30 minutes to write your essay. Think about what you will write before you write it.
